Welcome
to
the NEL Sailing Club
Web Site!
The NELSC based at East Kilbride
owns a Westerly Tiger cruising yacht berthed at Inverkip Marina. Only a 40 minute drive from Glasgow, it is an ideal
gateway for access to the Clyde and the West coast of Scotland which provides the most
beautiful cruising areas in the world. Boat bookings vary from short trips to nearby places like Arran,
Rothesay or Millport to cruises further afield such as the Western
Isles and Ireland.
Club
Ethos
The club has existed since 1952 to promote sailing and to make it
available in a safe, friendly and affordable way to
members, their families and friends. For new members of limited sailing
experience the club has lots of RYA qualified and club
approved skippers willing to
provide supervision. Requirements vary from those who
simply like occasional short breaks to others who wish to acquire
sailing
experience while taking formal courses with Royal Yachting Association registered training schools. Running costs are kept low by volunteer members
freely donating their efforts and labour over a few weekends during
winter months to keep the boat in a safe and seaworthy condition. There is also an association with the Scottish Civil Service Cruising
Club whose members use the boat under the supervision of an
approved
skipper.
Membership
Being a non commercial
association
the
qualified skippers who provide
advice and experience make the same contributions to the funds as new
and non-qualified members. Running costs are met by the membership fees either from members with unlimited use of the boat or "pay as
you
go" contributions of members and guests. |
